Let the Adventure Begin!...Tomorrow.

There is no better way to lull yourself into sleep deprivation than travelling. It's awful. But I live so that's not so awful.
You could track the flight on the interactive TVs on the plane!
When I got into Pearson, my flight was delayed 40 minutes - not good considering I only had an hour layover in London. The bag drop lady realized this an bumped me up to an earlier flight so I would be on time - also meaning I had only about a 35 minute wait in Pearson before boarding. Because I was bumped into the earlier flight - the only seat left for me was an exit seat...a seat anyone would usually have to pay an extra $85 for because of all the leg room since there is no one in front of you. So being the giant that I am... I was happy with that and it was a window seat. I quickly made friends with the couple next to me who are from Stoney Creek area, originally from Hagersville and both went to Brock U for teachers college. So we got along real well. The jet that we were on was brand new, state of the art. We were the second group of people to fly on it. It had everything. Including heated floors so you didnt have to keep your shoes on when you slept and your feet would stay warm. My favourite feature personally - except it made the chocolate bars in my backpack all melty. Minor details. I didn't sleep on the flight either - it was too loud and I wasn't comfortable so that didn't help the previously mentioned sleep deprivation.
Airplane Selfie. Obvi.
My layover in Heathrow Airport, London despite being 3 hrs did not feel like it. This airport is HUGE - between getting off the plane and up to the right terminal, through immigration and customs than up a few more levels through security was crazy and not for the weak-legged.
I finally got on my Glasgow flight - very last row, window. Fell asleep immediately in the most awful position for about 1/2 hour, which is better than nothing. Got off the plane outside on the ground... thought that was kind of weird but adventurous at the same time. I made note of that to this Scottish guy and his reply was 'Welcome to Scotland!' which made me laugh. Did the whole baggage claim thing - kinda scary when you're just chilling there and you're bags don't make an appearance for 16 minutes, but I got them!
Went up to arrivals to find Alex - but didn't catch her because she had been waiting for me at international arrivals and I had come in Domestic from London - an easy mistake anyone could make really.
So I went to Starbucks and order a water and panini which turns out to be quite gross because the chicken was seasoned with what tasted like Taco season...yea. So then I went and got on the shuttle bus that goes all the way to the bus station right across from the school which is sooo convenient. BUT the residence is on the other side of the school so it took me about 15-20 minutes to situate myself and drag my 46kgs of suitcase luggage and my backpack to the residence where I checked in and got my bedding and kitchen set.
Iona Building - Ground Floor - Room 1. There is absolutely NO reason why we should be paying as much as we do to live in these so called 'Accommodations'. They're actually pretty gross looking and not homey whatsoever. Carpets are gross - walls are marked up and yea... not exactly up to my standard of living so I don't think I will be posting pictures just yet. Not unless I can make it look nice.
So the realization of where I will be stuck living didn't add to the sleep deprivation and if anything made it worse.
Then I pulled out my bedding package.
UK Sunrise from 30,000 ft.
I'm almost certain that everything they gave me is made 100% from recycled water bottles. It's that kind of material - like the pillows they give you on planes - just bigger. So far, I'm not winning here.
Went out to check out the rest of the flat - nothing exciting - purple walls and green dingy floors. I really wasn't feeling too social so I decided to go back to my room. This is when I knew being sleep deprived had won - I was wa
Scotland is VERY green. Like everywhere.
lking back to my room and some how tripped/lost balance and collapsed face first onto the floor. No roommates were around to see so my ego wasn't bruised too badly - but the palm of my hand was... I got up as quickly as I could and kept going almost taking another tumble and got into my room. Borderline meltdown - I curled up on my bed and fell asleep real fast.

I met 4/6 roommates who turned out to be really nice - they're all Scottish and first year. Went to bed early-ish last night after watching most of a sad movie. I am sooooo incredibly thankful for the crazy warm and soft blanket I received as a gift before I left, made sleeping a little bit more warm and cozy and a little less sterile.

That was my first day in Glasgow - definitely not the best but for sure could've been worse.

For now,
Taylor
